Parts of a Microscope Flashcards
(Part of Microscope) This is also known as the body, it carries the optical parts in the upper part of the microscope
Head
(Part of Microscope) “foot of the microscope” It supports the entire microscope
Base
(Part of Microscope) The curve part that connects the base to the head and the eyepiece tube to the base of the microscope. It also serves as the handle
Frame (arm)
(Part of Microscope) Equipped with a lens that magnifies the object several times and enables one to see the specimen by looking through
Ocular lens (eyepiece)
(Part of Microscope) Standard magnification of ocular lenses
10x with an optional eyepiece having magnifications from 5x - 30x
(Part of Microscope) The eyepiece holder and carries the eyepiece just above the objective lens
Eyepiece tube
(Part of Microscope) Major lenses used for specimen visualization
Objective lenses
(Part of Microscope) Type of objective lens that has the lowest magnification
Scanning - 4x
(Part of Microscope) Type of objective lens that is used in observing the general outline and locating the various parts of the specimen
Lower Power Objective (LPO) - 10x
(Part of Microscope) Type of objective lens used in observing the detailed part of the specimen
Higher Power Objective (HPO) - 40x to 60x
(Part of Microscope) Type of objective lens that focuses very close to the slide and needs a small drop of oil immersion oil
Oil Immersion Objectives - 90x - 100x
(Part of Microscope) Holds the objectives and facilitates the shifting of the objectives
(Revolving) nosepiece
(Part of Microscope) The upper larger knob used for faster movement of the body tube when focusing the LPO
Course Adjustment Knob
(Part of Microscope) The smaller knob used faster movement of the body tube when focusing the HPO and OIO
Fine Adjustment Knob
(Part of Microscope) It is the platform upon which the slide containing the specimen to be studied in its place - and provided with a central opening allowing light to pass to the object of the study
