Parts of A Leaf Flashcards
What are Epidermal Cells?
Description: A waxy substance, It does not include chloroplasts, has one cell layer thick covering the entire leaf
Function: Protecting the leaf
What are Palisade Tissue Cells?
Description: A long/narrow (column-like) cells packed closely together.
Function: photosynthesis, packed with chloroplasts
What are Spongy Tissue Cells?
Description: Round, Loosely Packed Cells, Involves Chloroplasts
Function: Gas and Water Exchange, Site of photosynthesis
What are Stomata and Guard Cells?
Description: Small openings on the underside of a leaf
Function: Stomata permits exchange of CO2, O2, and H2O vapor; guard cells open or close stomata
What are Vascular Tissue Cells?
Description: Sequence of tubes or leaf veins called phloem and xylem
They are organized in vascular bundles in roots and stems of plants.
Function: Phloem and Xylem transfer fluid throughout the plant
a. they carry sugars which are made by leaves.
