Particle model if matter Flashcards
What is density?
The mass per unit volume
mass/volume
p=m/V
what is density measured in?
Kilograms per metre cubed
What is density dependant on?
The spacing of atoms
Which state of matter has highest density?
Solid, liquid, gases
During a change of state, what is conserved?
Mass
During a change of state what is and isn’t reversible?
Physical change is reversible, not chemical change
What is internal energy?
Energy which is stored by particles within a system in the form of kinetic or potential energy
What happens when you heat a system?
Increases energy if particles which increases internal energy which can just increase temp or change the state
What is specific heat capacity?
The amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1kg of a substance by 1 degree
What is the equation for specific heat capacity?
change in thermal energy = mass x SHC x temp change
deltaE = mc delta T
Why is specific heat capacity measured in?
Joules per kilogram per degrees celcius
What is specific latent heat?
The amount of energy needed to change the state of 1kg of a substance without changing the temperature
What is specific latent heat of fusion?
Energy to melt/ freeze
What is specific latent heat if vaporisation?
Energy needed to boil/ condense
Equation for specific latent heat?
Energy for change of state = mass x specific latent heat
E=mL
