Circuits and electricity Flashcards
what is energy?
The flow of charge around a complete circuit
Which way does electricity flow?
From positive to negative
What are delocalised electrons?
They are ‘free’ electrons that can move the wires flow of charge
What is a current?
the flow of charge past a point per second (number of vans passing a point per second) it always stays the same and is measured in Amps
What does a voltmetre do?
Measures the potential difference between two points of a curcuit
What is potential?
the measure of the energy per unit charge (number of loaves per van) measured in volts
what does resistence do?
determines how well charge flows through a conductor
How are static charges created? 3 marks
When certain insulators are rubbed together FRICTION causes ELECTRONS to move to the MORE POSITIVELY CHARGED INSULATOR
What happens to 2 objects that are oppositely charged?
They attract each other
What causes sparking?
If the electric charge of 2 objects is large enough, electrons can jump
On positive electrons the electric field points outwards
On negative electrons the electric field points inwards.
