P- one of the rights of people in scotland is to vote
E- the responsibility following voting is to go out and register making sure. people should research who they want to see elected
E- for example, in scotland people over the age of Scotland can now vote.

E- the responsibility when usinf media is to not incite hate or use hate speech even though alot gets done/said on new media
E- for example during the footbal game people had used the media to share people being offencive
why some people choose to participate
(3 PEE)
P- people in scotland choose to participate because they know how important it is.
E-people across scotland actually understand how important their participation is, they know how important it is and they know they can influence decision making
E-for example, the scottish parliament is in charge of important matters like health and education.
P- people in scotland chose to participate to protect their rights
E- many people make sure their point gets across for something that they believe should be protected, this make them a bit more safer with what rights people have
E- for example, only in recent years gay marriage has only just became something that people are loud to freely do, however in many countries it is still not aloud.
P- a final reason why people choose to participate is because they want to make a difference
E-people would join pressure group or support a political party because they want to get involved and feel like they can have a say
E- for example many people wanted free bus travel because of expense and now for under 19’s there is free bus travel
why some people choose not to participate
(3 PEE)
P- people in scotland chose not to vote because they think their vote dosent matter
E- since there is alot of people in scotland people may feel their vote dosent matter because there are lots of people who may lso vote for the same thing as them.
E- people 16 have only just been able to vote this may be showing a bit of non-equality to younger people because they feel like they dont know anything about it
P- people in scotland chose not to vote because they feel excluded
E- people in scotland may not always know what to do or how to vote meaning they will feel excluded from this, also to add ethnic minorities, women and people with disabilities may not feel included people their isnt people presenting people like them
E- for example, there has only ever been 1 fem in charge of scotlands democracy.
P- a final reason people choose not to participate is because they don’t know how
E-many people dont take modern and and so many dont learn about politics and about how democracy works
E- for example most people arent members of a political party and only about half of those who can vote do vote in scotland elections
3 roles of political parties in an election
(3 PEE)
P-one role of political parties in an election is to produce a manifesto.
E- political parties should produce a manifesto stating all of their promises they are going to make to the country
E-for example, SNP stated if they were re-elected they would’ve had a second referendum.
P-another role of political parties in an election is to recruit and promote candidates
E-different people from parties will have to go out and over-sell themselves to people to get them to stand as a candidate and represent that party
E- for example, labour have been trying to recruit more females because there hasn’t been many candidates that are females.
P- a final role of political parties during an election is to go out and campaign
E- if political parties went out and campaigned this would be super benificial to them because they would gain support and maintain an image
E- for example during the 2021 election SNP members went out in Aberdeenshire east and campaigned for gillian martin to get re-elected
3 roles of the media during an election
(3 PEE)
P-one role of the media during an election is to scrutinise political parties policys
E-this is when the media takes very deep and detailed looks at every single policys and ask leaders and candidates questions about them
E- for example, during the 2021 elections the media had very deep looks into what every political party was up to
P- another role of the media during a election is to provide a platform
E-this allows parties to reach the public to find out what could be changed and different concerns that the public may have to certain things
E- for example free bus travel has been allowed for under 19’s because alot of people felt like it could be useful
P- a final role of the media during an election is to promote public concerns
E- the public concerns can be raised through new media to get political parties attention, which then allows parties to meet the publics wants
E- for example during the time of covid when borris johnson had a party when the public found out about it everyone wanted him gone because of all the peoples lives covid has impacted and he decides to go trough the regulations.
what are the different stages of an election?
(3 PEE)
P-the 1st stage of an election is the dissolution of the Scottish Parliament
E- this is where at the start of an election campaign, msps stop being msps for a full 6 weeks
E- for example, in the SP election 2021, msps went on a 6 week reeses during the campaign. gillian martin was then re-elected after being elected in 2016
P- the 2nd stage of an election is campaigning
E- this is when all candidates that want that position put up banners, do tv adverts and post on social media, putting themselves out there and gain support
E- for example, during 2021 SP election there was tv leader debates happening, a lot of posters put up in shops and outside of places and people also hung-up banners at their houses
P- the final stage of an election is the count
E- this is when on the day of the election the votes have to be counted and the party with most votes wins
E- for example, in the SP elections 2021 SNP won with the most seats being 64/129
