WORKSAFE REPORTING
All hazards must be reported and recorded internally within an organisation. However, in some cases it is mandatory to also report them to WorkSafe. more serious cases need to be reported to work safe within 48 hours.
Failure to report such incidents to WorkSafe could result in formal warnings, fines or enforceable
undertakings.
RISK ASSESSMENT

It helps to:
-Identify hazards
-Protect employees
-Determine the likelihood and consequences of each hazard
-Allows you to evaluate each risk in order to select and implement appropriate control
measures.
-Prioritise hazards which are most likely to occur.

DEFINITION OF HAZARD
Hazards are any sources of potential harm or a situation with the potential to
cause harm, which could include injury, death, disease, financial loss and/or
environmental and equipment damage.

Hazard identification in a workplace should be an ongoing process and should
be completed at various times.

Hazard identification methods may include:
-Talking with staff
-Conduct physical inspections
-Reviewing records of accidents and near misses
-Media
-Enlist the assistance from professional consultants
-Publications such as online hazard alerts
-Talk with a representative from businesses similar to yours.

The likelihood of a risk can be determined in a number of different ways:
Quantitatively – expressed in numbers
e.g.. there is %70 chance…
Ranking – ordered from most likely to least likely
Qualitatively – uses descriptive words
e.g.. certain, likely, possible, unlikely and rare

next consequences have to be assessed.once assessed an instructor will know what degree of
emphasis needs to be placed on the risk.

Amount of loss – money, time or clients
Severity of the injury – insignificant, minor, moderate, major or catastrophic
Number of people

- Using risk assessment software systems

Consultation is the process of formally discussing something to seek advice and
make decisions. its an important part of maintaining health and safety in the
workplace and has a number of benefits for both employees and the organisation or business as a whole.
