Participants Flashcards
Target Population
The group of individuals that a researcher is interested in studying
Sampling Frame
The source from which a sample can be found
Random Sampling
Gained from using a random technique, this means every participant from a target population has an equal chance of being picked
Opportunity Sampling
Participants found by selecting people who are most available at the time of the study
Systematic Sampling
This is where the nth person is selected (n is any number) this can be a random sample if the first person was selected using a random method
Stratified Sampling
Participants are selected randomly from different subgroups of a target population
Quota Sampling
Similar to a stratified sample but participants are not selected randomly
Self-selected sampling
A sample based on volunteers to make the sample
Snowball sampling
Relies on refferals from initial participants to generate additional participants
Event Sampling (Observational Technique)
A count is kept of the number of times a behaviour occurs
Time Sampling (Observational Technique)
The observer records behaviours in a given time frame
