participant bias Flashcards
acquiescence bias
the tendency to give positive answers no matter the question
can be avoided by asking non leading, open minded and neutral questions
social desirability bias
participants tendency to respond or behave in a way they think will make them liked
can be avoided by asking questions in a non judgmental way and ask questions about a third person
dominant respondent bias
occurs in a group setting. one participant in the group influences the behavior/responses of others
researchers should ensure that all participants are able to voice their opinions equally and keep the dominant respondents in check
sensitivity bias
when participants answer regular questions honestly but hide information when the questions are sensitive
to avoid this, the researcher should ensure a good rapport is established
