Most common symptom of Esophageal disease (Cecil)
Heartburn (pyrosis) is the most common symptom.
When does heartburn tend to occur? (Cecil)
it tends to occur after meals, when a patient is lying supine, or after an increase in intra-abdominal pressure (bending or lifting).
What types of food induce heartburn? And what can relieve heartburn (Cecil)
Specific types of food, including fatty or spicy foods and chocolate, may also induce heartburn.
Symptoms are often relieved temporarily by antacid preparations.
Heartburn may be accompanied by (Cecil)
Regurgitation of bitter or sour fluid into the back of the throat or by excessive saliva production (the so-called water brash, which is caused by a vagal reflex induced by the presence of acid in the esophagus).
