Q

What is a single circulatory system?

A

In fish, Oxygen is absorbed through the fishes gills. . It is the least efficient. One atruim one ventricle

Q

What is the incomplete double circulatory system?

A

In amphibians and reptiles This is an incomplete double. They have 1 ventricle and 2 atria Amphibians gather oxygen through their moist skin whilst reptiles mix blood by a divided septum reducing the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygented blood

Q

What is a complete double circulatory system?

A

Mammals and birds have 2 ventricles and 2 atria which are separated by a septum but blood does not mix. This is the most efficient as no mixing is allowed here.

Q

What is a Confromer?

A

Organisms unable to alter their metabolic rate in a response to a change in the external environment…they have a low metabolic cost and a narrow range of ecological niches…an example of this is reptiles basking in the sun to allow the enzymes to function better

Q

What is a regulator?

A

An organism who’s metabolic rate can be regulated constantly regardless of its external environment..there is an increased range of ecological niches however they have higher metabolic costs
