A southerner who tried to going the north, not plantation owners, instead slaves and poor white people
What is a carpetbagger?
A northerner that moved to the south to make money off of them. The south didn’t have much money so sometimes they gave them property. They were making so much money that a law had to be made saying they couldn’t do this

Freedmen and landless whites

Serfs from Europe
What is a sharecropper (definition)?
People who live in an owners farm and have to grow what the owner tells them to grow. They are expected to provide for themselves.

They had to come back next year
