Fix the lives of the slaves that were already there
Why was there no money in the north after the war?
They had to change their industries from making bullets, cannons, etc. to making things like pencils, paper, etc.
Who were the freedmen?
Former slaves
What did it mean if they had to give freedmen jobs?
They had to take the poor peoples’ jobs they already didn’t have
Who were forced to go west by the freedmen?
Poor whites
What is reconstruction?
The time period from the end of the civil war until 1877. These were the policies used by the federal government to rebuild the nation (north and south) following the civil war.
