What are the two main components of a wheel speed sensor?

The sensor and the exciter ring
(also called the tone ring, sensor ring, and the tooth wheel)

What is the exciter ring?
A
A ring with notched teeth, usually 100 evenly spaced

How does the pickup sensor work?
A
It is a wire coil wrapped around a magnet that creates a magnetic field

What does the ECU use the current from the pickup sensor for?
A
To determine the deceleration or acceleration of the wheel

What do ABS modulator valves regulate?
A
The air pressure to the brakes during ABS action

What happens when modulator valves are not receiving commands from the ECU?
A
The modulator valve allows air to flow freely and has no effect on the brake pressure
