National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ABS requirement changes
Previous to 1997, ABS on trailers had to be powered by the trailer’s stop lamp circuit. After 1997, all tractors built on or after March 1, 1997 must provide constant electrical power to the trailer electrical connector for powering the ABS.
Additional information: Changes were made in 1997 regarding the ABS requirements for trailers.
Power Line Carrier (PLC) mandate
PLC was mandated on March 1, 2001 for trucks and trailers. It is a way of communicating information by multiplexing data on the same wire used for ABS electric power.
Example sentence: The Power Line Carrier system allows for efficient communication on trucks and trailers.
ABS System Parts
Key components of the ABS system include the electronic control unit (ECU), wheel speed sensors, exciter rings, and modulator valves.
