Part 3 Flashcards
What is Confirmation?
One of the Sacraments of Initiation. It completes and confirms the sanctifying grace first received in the sacrament of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts and seal of the Holy Spirit. This Sacrament equips the confirmed for worship and apostolic life in the Church.
How did the origin of the Confirmation Name come about?
The tradition comes from a Catholic monastic movement in the 5th century where monks would go into the desert to devote themselves to prayer and penance. These monks would take a new name to indicate their new vocation. From this tradition, the Confirmation name of a Saint is taken up by the one who is being confirmed so that they can haver a concreate model of the Christian life.
How is the Church and the Sacraments related?
Jesus Christ entrusted the Church as the dispenser of the sacraments so that they may be celebrated by the faithful from generation to generation.
