How is Creation and The Sacraments related?
The earth is a visible sign of God’s grace just like the sacraments. Moreover, we can through our 5 senses understand that there is truth, beauty, and goodness that is contained in creation.
What are the material signs of each Sacrament?
Baptism-Water
Confirmation-Sacred Chrism Oil
Eucharist- wheat bread and grape wine
Reconciliation- Oral Confession
Holy Orders- the laying of hands
Marriage-exchange of vows and consummation
Anointing of The Sick-oil and laying on of hands
What event was the Sacrament of Confirmation Instituted?
At Pentecost where God poured out the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in order to Provide them with the Strength to participate in accomplishing his will and to proclaim his word to all who would hear and believe.
What does Christ literally mean?
“Anointed one”
What is the Matter, Form, and Minister of Confirmation?
Matter: Sacred Chrism Oil
Form: “Be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.”
Minister: Bishop
List the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit and give a one sentence definition
Wisdom- Tasting (Sapientia) or intimately experiencing the mind and nature of God.
Understanding- The ability to understand divine mysteries such as the nature of God and divine truths.
Counsel- Being instructed by the Holy Spirit by the Holy Spirit as to what actions are morally right.
Fortitude- Courage to defend and live the demands of our Christian life in a hostile environment.
Knowledge- A supernatural knowledge that all creation, our actions, and all that has been achieved in history comes from God and is directed toward Him.
Piety- A reverence that that we are sons and daughters of God.
Fear of God- Love of God and fear of displeasing Him.
