Part 2: Medial Compartment of the Thigh Flashcards
What is the origin, attachment, innervation and action of Gracilis?
O: Outer surface of ischiopubic ramus
I: Upper medial shaft of tibia
N: Anterior division of obturator nerve
A: Adducts hip, flexes and medially rotates flexed knee
What is the origin, attachment, innervation and action of Adductor longus?
O: Body of pubis inferior and medial to pubic tubercle.
I: Lower 2/3 of medial linea aspera
N: Anterior division of obturator nerve
A: Adducts hip
What is the origin, attachment, innervation and action of Adductor Brevis?
O: Inferior ramus and body of pubis
I: Upper 1/3 linea aspera
N: Anterior divisions of obturator nerve
A: Adducts hip
What is the origin, attachment, innervation and action of Adductor magnus
2 portions fused Adductor portion: O: ischiopubic ramus I: Lower gluteal line and linea aspera N: Posterior division of obturator nerve A: Adducts hip
Hamstring portion: O: Lower outer quadrant of ischial tuberosity I: Adductor tubercle N: Tibial portion to sciatic A: extends hip
What is the origin, attachment, innervation and action of Obturator externus?
O: Outer obturator membrane and rim of pubis and ischium bordering it
I: Trochanteric fossa
N: Posterior division of obturator nerve
A: Lat rotates hip
Where does the obturator artery arise and what does it supply?
Enters through obturator foramen. Divides into medial and lateral branches. Encircle OE and anastomoses with medial circumflex artery. Lateral branch gives rise to artery in ligament of head of femur
Describe the course of the obturator nerve
Enters through OF. Divides into anterior and posterior divisions. These straddle adductor brevis
What does the anterior divisions of obturator nerve supply?
Adductor longus, Brevis and gracilis
What does the posterior divisions of obturator nerve supply?
Adductor magnus (adductor part), Obturator externus and gives fine branch which runs with femoral artery to give twig to knee joint (Hilton’s law)
