Muslim attitudes on gender discrimination
In Islam, men and women are seen as equal as it is taught that Allah created everyone and therefore everyone is equal. Muslims also believe that everyone will be judged in the same way after death.
“for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise - for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward”
All genders have the same rewards.
Men and women are both expected to marry and they have the same rights in terms of religion and education.
Christian attitudes on gender discrimination
In Christianity, all genders are seen as equal as they believe that everyone is equal before God.
“nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus”
However there is some gender discrimination in the Church as Catholic Christians only allow men to hold the positions of Bishop, priest, deacon and pope. They believe that these roles represent Jesus, who was male, and follow the teachings in the Cathecism of the Catholic Church which states that only a baptised man can hold these positions, highlight gender discrimination
Non religious attitudes on gender discrimination
Many atheists believe that all genders are equal as this is basic human rights and they believe that all genders deserve the same opportunities and should not be differentiated.
Justice in Christianity
God is seen to be just and people should act in the same way and the bible teaches that God wants people to act justly
“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly”
Jesus taught that everyone should be treated fairly and that we should aim to treat people as we would like to be treated
God will judge people after death and will forgive those who are truly sorry for their sins
“Do to others as you would have them do to you”
Forgiveness in Christianity
Christians believe they should follow the example of Jesus who taught forgiveness
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly father will also forgive you”
Jesus taught about forgiveness through the Lords prayer and through his actions. He also forgave those who crucified him before he died
Pacifism in Christianity
Many Christians are pacifists as they see Jesus as a pacifist as many of his teachings were about peace
“You shall not murder”
“Put the sword back… for those who draw the sword die by the sword”
“If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one”
