What are the steps in forwarding an exhibit for examination?

A
  1. Ensure decision was confirmed at forensic strategy meeting
  2. Record all decisions in IMT
  3. Ensure OC INV has authorised it
  4. Prep Pol143s etc
  5. Ensure exhibits prepped and separately sealed, labelled, 143s filled out properly etc
  6. Deliver exhibits for examination promptly to avoid deterioration
  7. Inform ESR if exam is no longer required!

What is chain of custody and why is it important?

A

The chain of custody includes every person who has had custody of an exhibit from the time it was discovered until the time it is produced in court. It is used to demonstrate the integrity and therefore admissibility of exhibits
