God rested, and gave us our Sabbath.
How do we know about this creation?
God tells us about it in His Word the Bible.
Why did God make you and all things?
For His own glory.
How can you glorify God?
By loving Him and doing what he commands.
Why ought you to glorify God?
Because He made me and takes care of me.
Are there more gods than one?
No. There is only one God.
In how many persons does this one God exist?
In three persons.
Who are they?
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Who is God?
God is a spirit and has not a body like men.
Where is God?
God is everywhere.
Can I see God?
No, but He always sees me.
Does God know all things?
Yes. Nothing can be hidden from God.
Can God do all things?
Yes. God can do all His holy will.
Where do you learn how to love and obey God?
In the Bible alone.
Who wrote the Bible?
Chosen men who wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Who were our first parents?
Adam and Eve.
Of what were our first parents made?
God made the body of Adam out of the ground, and formed Eve from the body of Adam.
How were Adam and Eve different from the animals?
God made them in His own image.
What did God give Adam and Eve besides bodies?
He gave them souls that could never die.
Have you a soul as well as a body?
Yes. I have a soul that can never die.
How do you know that you have a soul?
Because the Bible tells me so.
Because I can think about God and the world to come.
Where did Adam and Eve live?
In the beautiful garden of Eden.
What did Adam do in the garden of Eden?
He took care of the garden as its king.
How did he show that he was king?
He named the animals.
In what condition did God make Adam and Eve?
He made them holy and happy.
Did Adam and Eve stay holy and happy?
No. They sinned against God.
What is sin?
Sin is any transgression of the law of God.
What is meant by transgression?
Any thought, word, or deed that breaks God’s law by omission or commission.
What is a sin of commission?
Doing what God forbids.
What is a sin of omission?
Not doing what God requires.
How did Adam and Eve sin?
They ate of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Why was it a sin to eat of that tree?
Because God told them not to eat of it.
Who tempted them to this sin?
The devil tempted Eve and she gave the fruit to Adam.
What happened to our first parents when they had sinned?
Instead of being holy and happy, they became sinful and miserable.
What effect had the sin of Adam on all mankind?
All mankind is born in a state of sin and misery.
What do we inherit as a result of this original sin?
A sinful nature.
What does every sin deserve?
The anger and judgement of God.
Can anyone go to heaven with this sinful nature?
No. Our hearts must be changed before we can be fit for heaven.
What is a change of heart called?
Regeneration.
Who can change a sinner’s heart?
The Holy Spirit alone.
What is righteousness?
It is God’s goodness.
Can anyone be saved by their own righteousness?
No. No one is good enough for God.
What did God promise after Adam fell?
A Saviour, to save us from eternal separation from God.
