  • I’ve just finished watching the greatest show never made a few days ago
  • I’m also watching boiling point
  • and im really excited to start watching 007 road to a million on Friday because it’s right up my street I love an adventure show and I love James Bond. its exciting to me that Barbara broccoli has been so on board with it as well

Q

film feels so unaccessible

A

it feels like amazon prime is one of the very few maybe even the only production company and certainly the only streaming service that actually cares about not just bringing in and giving opportunities to people in film but also really training them because that’s what I want I just really want to learn and become a capable and competent member on set or in a production office

Q

are you interested in scripted and unscripted?

A
  • yes I love both because of their sense of escapism
  • I love scripted for the art of the storytelling, world building, character development
  • I love unscripted because it’s fascinating you know, often real life can make a story that’s so wild and unbelievable it’s even more interesting than fiction
  • I love tv generally, it’s my favourite way of consuming video, more so than films, I think its more satisfying and captivating in its longer format
  • gathering round the tv

Q

challenges of making scripted tv?

A

casting location script development
all this takes longer since with unscripted the story is already right there fully formed, you don’t have to worry about believability because it is real
requires more budget
relies on so many people, eg finding the right actor could mean whole thing might not work
link challenges back to departments you’re interested in: production / post production, locations and first ad-ing

Q

challenges of making unscripted tv?

A
  • finding the right story, making sure it’s a whole story, it needs an ending or some kind of conclusiveness and satisfying
  • getting info from people who are trying to escape stardom
  • the morals of it, getting people to agree to it, sometimes agreeing to it without being a part of it
  • visually in terms of the filmmaking itself, it’s hard to balance the narrative story that’s an audio with visual components
  • like the interviews have to be interspersed with other content like news footage for example, so finding that acquiring the rights for that is a challenge
  • if using re-enactments that’s a really fine line to tread because it can often make it a bit naff if done badly, kind of makes a mockery almost if it looks a bit spoof like, also because then it’s like well did you actually want to make a scripted rendition of this rather than unscripted

Q

what do you know about nfts

A

I know it’s the best film school in the uk. im constantly seeing people who have succeeded in film and television have studied here whether as a post grad diploma or as a masters student. for example I saw how to have sex last week and there was a q and a with Molly manning walker after and it was such an inspiring talk and film and of course googling her I see she went to nfts. I also listened to another interview with her where she talked about how she had to go to nfts to level up. seeing this just shows me how great a film school it is, it has incredible connections and I just really admire their ethos of giving filmmakers a space to improve and be the best they can

Q

what do you think of amazon prime

A
  • household staple of mine for years
  • love their shows. love Clarkson farm. love greatest show never made. the devils hour. excited for upcoming shows like dead hot and the road to a million
  • great variety of film and tv, I think making original content is the best
  • I like that they provide other platforms through amazon as well I think that’s really smart, like I started the bfs player trial the other day that was great for getting around to seeing some classics I couldn’t see otherwise
  • quality
  • champion new stories and different perspectives
  • output from each country feels very distinct, with Netflix everything just feels American
18
Q

tell me about a time you worked as a team

A
  • one example of when I worked as a team is when I made a short film that I produced wrote and directed, we had to work as a team to follow the schedule, make sure everyone was on the same page and happy so that things went smoothly. everyone had to do their role in order for things to work
  • also when I was doings study abroad I had to work as a team with some of the other British students doing Erasmus because the visa system was a nightmare and we had to work together to understand how to do it because a lot of peoples student visa applications were rejected because of paperwork issues so we had to work together, share information and tricks in order to then secure the first part of our visa and again later on in Barcelona my friend and I had to work out how to get the second part of our visa when there were no appointments available because the system is corrupt
  • also at the cinema, particularly when we were closing, we had to work as a team to get the jobs done like restocking cleaning, locking up so we could all go home having done the job properly
