Scrutiny, Debate, Representation, Law making and legitimation
what is scrutiny?
Scrutiny of the executive is when the party in goverment is held to account for their actions and MP’s can question government ministers on actions and have the power to remove ministers and the goverment from power.
why is debate one of the main functions of HOC?
MP’s debate major issues of importance to voters and the country.
why is providing ministers an important function?
providing mp’s to form the goverment and the majority of ministers is MP’s including the prime minister. ministers are chosen by appointment by the prime minister. ministers make up the cabinet and shadow ministers in the opposition are shadow cabinet.
why is representation an important function?
mps need a voice
