what is an outsider group?


A

outsider groups are not closely associated with government and are largely excluded from political consultation and contact. they usually concentrate on mobilising public opinion to put pressure on the government.

what is an insider group?


A

insiders have a special relationship with the government as their aims are usually compatible with the gov.

what are promotional and cause groups?


A

membership tends to be open - seeking to gain a mass of support. cause groups tend to have altruistic policies ie. they benefit wider society.

what are sectional interest groups?


A

membership is often restricted to particular sections of society e.g teachers lawyers. they aim to look after the interests of that particular group.

what are think tanks?


A

think tanks refer to privately funded non-profit organisations that conduct research with a view to changing political policies. good think tanks are as rigorous as academic research and as accessible as journalism. well known think tanks: the adam smith institute, the centre for social justice, the centre for policy studies.

what are lobbyists?


A

lobbyists are companies who get paid to gain access to government for their clients. lobbying companies often get paid to gain access to government for their clients and often employ ex politicians who know how to access decision makers.
