parathyroid problems Flashcards
1
Q
parathyroid
A
- secrete PTH which pulls ca from bone into blood making serum ca go up
- too much PTH serum calcium high
- no PTH serum calcium will be low
2
Q
relationship of PTH, Calcium, Phosphate
A
HyperPTH=Hypercalcemia=hypophosphatemia
HYPOPTH=HYPOCA=HYPERPHOS
3
Q
S/S of hyperPTH
A
- too much PTH
- serum calcium is high
- serum phosphate is low
- other S/S pt seems SEDATED
4
Q
S/S of hypoPTH
A
- not enough PTH
- serum calcium low
- serum phosphate is high
- other S/S pt not sedated
5
Q
Treatment of hyperPTH
A
-partial parathyroidectomy/ PTH secretion will decrease
Post-op monitor for s/s of hypocalcemia
monitor Ca levels
6
Q
Treatment of HypoPTH
A
- IV calcium
- phosporous binding drugs
