Rare caused by Vitamin D deficiency
-causes of vitamin deficiency/lack of exposure to UV rays, GI malabsortion, extensive burns, chronic diarrhea, pregnancy, kidney disease, drugs (phenytoin/dilantin)

S/S osteomalacia
A
most common- localized bone pain, difficulty rising from a chair, difficulty walking, other symptons low back &bone pain, progressive muscular weakness,weight loss,progressive deformities of the spine or extremities, fractures common

diagnosis of osteomalacia
A
blood test: calcium is decresed vitamin D 25-OH alkaline phosphatase elevated

treatment of osteomalacia
A
- Vitamin D suplements
- exposure to sunlight
- Calcium supplements
- exposure to sunlight
- weight bearing exercises
