Parasympathetic Division Flashcards
What is an alternate name of the Parasymp?
Craniosacral
What are the 4 major cranial nerves and 3 sacral nerves associated with Parasymp’s preganglionic neurons?
CN3 Oculomotor
Cn7 Facial
CN9 Glossopharyngeal
CN10 Vagus
S2, S3, and S4
CN3 Oculomotor: Cell Body Location
Edinger Westphal Nucleus of the midbrain of CNS
CN7 Facial: Soma Location
Superior Salivatory Nucleus in medulla of CNS
CN9 Glossopharyngeal Nerve: Soma Location
Inferior Salivatory Nucleus in Medulla
CN10 Vagus: Soma Location
Dorsal Vagal Nucleus of medulla
Sacral Nerves 2, 3, 4: Soma Location
Intermediate Gray matter of the sacral spinal cord
Sacral Parasym Neurons: Preganglion fibers of S2, S3, and S4 exiting pathway
Exit spinal cord in the anterior/ventral root and leave the sacral spinal nerves as the pelvic splanchnic nerves
Where do the pelvic splanchnic nerves travel to?
Some of the preganglionic axons enter the pelvic autonomic plexuses and supply the oragns in the pelives
Some asscend out of the pelvis via the hpogastric nerves to be distributed to the hundgut structures supplied by the inferior mesenteric artery
What do the hypogastric nerves innervate?
Descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum
CN3 Oculomotor: Pathway and Ganglion
Travel in the oculomotor nerve to synapse in ciliary ganglion located in the orbit
CN 3 Oculomotor: Innervation
Ciliary and Sphincter eye muscles
Cn3 Oculomotor: Action
Accommodation of the lens (ciliary) and constriction of the pupil (sphincter)
CN7 Facial: Pathway and Ganglion (Salivation)
Preganglionic Para axons travel in the facial nerve and its branches synapse in the submandibular ganglion
CN7 Facial: Innervation
Submadibular and Sublingual Salivary Glands
