What is the function of the ANS?
A
Maintains homeostasis
Integrates the activity of the automatic, unconscious ehaviors ongoing in the body
Controls activity of all involuntary muscles (smoooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and glands)

What is the impulse structure of the ANS?
A
2 Neurons linked synaptically:
Preganglionic neuron (cell body in CNS, axon is a preganglionic axon/fiber that goes to a ganglion)
Postganglionic Neuron (cell body is in autonomic ganglion OUTSIDE of CNS, axon is postganglionic axon that projects to an EFFECTOR)
