Functional Types of Neurons Flashcards
What are the 4 functional types of neuronal fibers?
Somatic
Afferent
General
Sensory
Where are sensory receptors located in the body (what do they innervate)?
Skin
Joints
Muscles
How do fibers enter the CNS/ where are their cell bodies located?
Posterior/Dorsal Root Ganglia
Cranial nerve Ganglia
What is the pathway from the sensory root receptor into the spinal cord?
1 neuron with the cell body in the dorsal root ganglion
Pathway of impulse from snsory receptor to CNS?
Impulse at receptor
Carried in the peripheral process of ganglia cell, axon of neuron
Central process of axon enters the CNS by the posterior/dorsal root
How do impulses travel with somatic efferent- motor fibers?
Away from CNS
Where are motor neurons in the CNS found?
Anterior/ventral horn of spinal cord
Certain crainal nerve motor nuclei
True or False: Somatic Efferent- Motor- impulses are sent to a ganglion then to skeletal muscle
False, they are sent directly to skeletal muscle through fibers in the anterior.ventral roots and peripheral nerves
True or False: Viceral Afferent- sensory- impulses travel into the CNS
True
What is the difference between visceral afferent-sensory fibers and somatic efferent, other than impulse direction?
Sensory’s receptors are associated with cvisceral structures
What direction do Visceral Efferent- Motor: ANS- impulses travel in relation to CNS?
Away from CNS
How does the impulse travel in visceral efferent- motor pathway?
Travel through Preganglionic Neuron with cell body in CNS (intermediate zone of gray matter)
, then preganglionic axon sunapses with 2nd neuron called post ganglionic neuron. That cell body is located outside the CNS in an autonomic ganglion
Where do motor impulses of visceral efferent- motor neurons travel to?
Glands
Cardiac Muscle
Smooth Muscle
