Parasympathetic Flashcards
parasympathetic effect on bodily functions
stimulate digestive, urinary, and reproductive functions
decrease cardiovascular and respiratory
CN X
vagus nerve
innervates thoracic and abdominal organs
sacral spinal cord
innervates pelvic organs
thoracic viscera innervation
vagus nerve -> vagosympathetic trunk
parasympathetic intramural ganglions
within organs innervated
postganglionic neuron
intramural (within wall of target organ)
abdomen preganglionic pathway
parasympathetic nucleus of vagus
vagus nerve -> dorsal and ventral branches
-> dorsal and ventral vagal trunks
recurrent laryngeal nerves
given off by vagal branches
goes to cervical organs like esophagus, trachea, and larynx
dorsal vagal trunk
mixture of right and left dorsal vagus branches
in contact wiht celiacomesteric plexus ganglia (sympathetic) but no synapse, uses celiac a and cranial mesenteric a to get to organs
ventral vagal trunk
mixture of right and left ventral vagus branches
directly innervates organs (stomach, spleen)
dorsal/ ventral branches passes hiatus as
trunk
right recurrent laryngeal n
goes toward the larynx and wraps around right subclavian a
(which is why it is more cranial than left)
left recurrent laryngeal n
wraps around aortic arch
parasympathetic to pelvic organs
ventral root-> spinal nerves-> ventral branch-> lumbosacral plexus-> pelvic nerve-> pelvic plexus
hypogastric n
sympathetic
can bring pre and post ganglionic to pelvic plexus
