May be asymptomatic for long period
Liver: - abdominal pain - nausea and V+ Lung: - chronic cough and dyspnoea - chest pain
Toxoplasma transmission to humans
Infected cat sheds for 2-3wks
Sporulated oocysts aerosolised
Inhaled by human or intermediate host (livestock)
Can be re-aerosolised during parturition
Toxoplasma clinical signs (3)
Mild flu-like symptoms in healthy humans
If immunosuppressed:
- neurological signs
- resp. And cardiac disease
If pregnant:
- miscarriage/still-birth/birth defects
- congenital: CNS and ocular disorders
Mange causal agents and transmission to humans
Burrowing mites
Transmitted through close contact or contaminated fomites
Clinical signs of mange in humans (4)
Affects warm skin folds
Inflammation and blistering
Pruritis
Burrowing tracks
Toxocara transmission to humans
Via ingested of faecal matter
How does toxocara affect body
Migrate to tissues:
- viscera
- ocular
- neural
Symptoms depend on migration
