bite of tick that carries the spirochete borrelia burgdorferi
etiology for lyme disease
tick bite from white tailed deer and white footed mice
- common locations: groin, thigh, and axillae
diagnosis for lyme disease
enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay - detects antibodies to b. burgdorferi
clinical manifestation for lyme disease
- has multiple symptoms that will affect the skin, nervous system, heart and musculoskeletal system
- has 3 stages
what are the 3 stages for lyme disease
stage 1- multiple erythematous papules that itch, sting or burn (summer/early fall - outbreaks)
stage 2- appears weeks to months later; characterized by meningitis, cranial nerve palsies, and peripheral neuropathy
stage 3- oligoarticular arthritis
treatment for lyme disease
- doxycycline, amoxicillin, or erythromycin for 10-21 days
patho for scabies
eggs laid by sarcoptes scabiei mite in stratum corneum then will hatch into larvae, will hatch in 3-4 days and will reach adulthood in 2 months
etiology for scabies
infestation of sacrcoptes scabiei mite
diagnosis for scabies
observation of burrows and scraping
