What are paragraphs?
A
Paragraphs are the building blocks or writing compositions and essays and are often defined as having a certain number of sentences with a beginning, middle and end. Paragraphs need unity and so MUST express ONE main idea.

What are the parts of a paragraph?

- The topic sentence
- The supporting sentences
- The concluding sentence

What is the topic sentence?
A
- is usually the first sentence in a paragraph
- it is introductory meaning it should just INTRODUCE the main idea
- it should not include details

What are the supporting sentences?
A
- is where the detailed sentences go to support the main idea

What is the concluding sentence?
A
- is the sentence at the end of a paragraph that summarizes the information presented in that paragraph.

What are the paragraph rules?
A
- Indent the first word in a paragraph
- Start a paragraph with a topic sentence which states the main idea of that paragraph
- If you begin writing about a new idea, put it in a new paragraph
- Paragraphs must answer questions on a certain topic.
