What is a paradigm?
A model on how you think about things, a set of concepts and theories that sets your perspective on different topics. (the assumptions of the social world)
Structural functionalism
Society is seen as a complex system whose parts work together to promote stability and social order.
What are the different types of social functions
Manifest and Latent
Manifest functions
Intended or obvious consequences of a particular structure
Latent functions
Unintended, and unrecognized consequences of a particular structure
Function VS dysfunction
Positive for a society VS Negative for a society
Conflict theory
Different groups that struggle for domination. There can be race conflict theory, gender conflict theory etc
Symbolic interactionalism
Sociology needs to focus on individual situations and the meanings that they attach to them.
Is conflict theory Macro or Micro?
Macro- how society defines sources of inequality and conflict
Is functional theory Macro or Micro?
Macro because it focuses on how large structures fit together.
