A major epicentre of a political and social crisis on the home front and challenges associated with the Vietnam War challenged American society and past definitions of freedom
What justified the mass violations of civil liberties in this period?
The defence of America, and McCarthyism creates a gateway for persecutions of not only communists, but anything believed to be subversive or un-American
