PAR scoring and definitions Flashcards
What are the 5 components of PAR and their weightings?
Upper and lower anterior segments x 1 Right & Left buccal segments x 1 Overjet and reverse overjet x 6 Overbite and openbite x 2 Centerlines x 4
What is PAR used for?
Used to measure the success of treatment.
How is PAR calculated?
Total for component x weighting factor = weighted total
What is a good standard of treatment?
70%
How do we assess the improvement of PAR?
Record the start PAR, finish PAR and reduction in PAR as a percentage
Use a Nomogram to plot the pre treatment and post treatment values.
How is the percentage reduction worked out?
(Reduction PAR divided by starting PAR) X 100 = percentage reduction
What is hypodonita?
Congenital absence of one or more primary or secondary teeth.
What is oligodonita?
More than 6 missing teeth
What is anodonita?
Total loss of teeth
What is impaction?
Failure of eruption of a tooth due to crowding or an obstruction within the dental arch
What is a deepbite?
Vertical overlap of upper incisors over lower incisors when posterior segment is in occlusion. Upper incisors overlap lower incisors in excess of 4mm or more.
What is a normal overbite?
Upper incisors cover one third of lower incisors with posterior segment in occlusion.
What is an increased overbite?
Upper incisors cover more than one third of lower incisors when posterior segment in in occlusion
What is a decreased overbite?
Upper incisors cover less than one-third of lower incisors when posterior segment is in occlusion
What is an incomplete overbite?
Lower incisors do not come into contact with hard or soft tissues
What is a complete overbite?
Lower incisors come into contact with hard or soft tissues.
What is an anterior openbite?
No vertical overlap of the upper and lower incisors when posterior segment is in occlusion
What is a posterior openbite?
No vertical overlap of upper and lower posterior teeth when posterior segment teeth are in occlusion
What is a crossbite?
An abnormal relationship between opposing teeth in buccopalatel or buccolingual direction
What is a posterior crossbite?
Buccal cusps of lower teeth occlude buccal to buccal cusps of upper teeth when patient is in full occlusion
What is an anterior crossbite?
One or more of the maxillary incisors occlude lingual to lower incisors with posterior teeth in occlusion
What is a lingual crossbite?
Buccal cusps of lower teeth occlude palatal to palatal cusps upper teeth when patient in full occlusion
What is an overjet?
Distance between upper and lower incisors in horizontal plane. Normal overjet is 2-4mm
What is bimaxillary proclination?
Occlusions where both upper and lower incisors are proclined.
What is the center of resistance?
Point in the body where resistance to movement is concentrated
What is force moment?
The component found within a force that causes rotational movement.
What is force couple?
In fixed appliances, when an archwire connects into a bracket slot a force couple is created, which will achieve rotation, inclination of teeth and torque.
What is another version of PAR?
