Counsel a women for abnormal pap smear

A

HSIL is a premalignant donation that may progress if untreated but is not cancer. These are simple changes that require Ix or minor surgery and follow up.
- The pap smear is a screening test not a diagnostic test.
Continus contraception until at least 6 months of good pap smears
It doesn’t effect your ability to conceive
- If preg require increase monitor due to it being a procedure on the Cx increases risk of miscarriage and preterm labour.

Mx of abnormal papsmear

A

Refer to Gyn who will choose to do a colposcopy +/- biopsy. After that either a laser or loop (LLETZ) under local or general anaesthesia.
Cone biopsy only if large or conflicting result on Biopsy or suspected invasive adenocarcinoma.
After procedure they will have 7-10 days of vaginal discharge.
