Latitude
Lines that run parallel to an equator on the map (Equator is 0°, the North Pole is 90° north, the south pole is 90°S)
Longitude
Lines that run between the north and south pole
Scale
The unit of distance on a map is given on the scale e.g. 125, 000 means 1 cm equals 25,000 cm underground
Contours
Lines on a map that help you identify the height of the land. They will help you to describe physical features
Relief
The height of the land/steepness of land
Cross-section
Your diagram showing a landscape/features that has been sliced in half
Settlements
Places where people live
Land use
How the land is being used or has been changed to be use in a different way
Aerial photo
If photo taken from above (from an aeroplane)
Satellite photo
Digitally taking photographs from an aeroplane
Line graphs
Show continuous change over time
Bar graph
Comparing quantities of something. When bars are separated (do not touch) your unconnected
Histograms
Bar graphs with no gaps between them shoes continuous data (rainfall)
Divided paragraphs
A bar graph where each part is subdivided into different colours to create categories
Pie chart
Is circle divided into segments to show proportions
Pictograms
Using pictures or symbols to represent quantities of something
Scattergraph
A graph showing two sets of data that may be related
Choropleth maps
Different colours so different densities of something e.g. darker colours represents more of something
