Ecosystem
The study of living (biotic) and non-living (abiotic) aspects of the environment such as a woodland where the living things interact with each other and also with the non-living environment they are found in.
Biome
A large scale ecosystem found across the globe; each biome has ita own group of plants, animals and climate which makes it unique and distinctive.
Goods
Physical material, such as timber from trees or fish caught in a lake
Services
Function, e.g. how forests prevent flooding and trees add oxygen
Indigenous
Those origanating from a particular place; native
TNCs
There are companies that operate om many different countries. McDonalds, a TNC, has over 34000 restaurants in 119 different countries.
Carbon sinks
Natural stores for carbon containing chemical compounds like carbon dioxide or methane
Biotic
Living things such as plants, animals and bacteria ect.
Abiotic
Non living things that organism interact with such as temperature, light, air ect.
Interdependent
How biotic and abiotic factors interact for survival
Commercial farming
Forest is cleared to make space for cattle grazing or for huge palm oil or soya plantation
Logging
Local demand for fuel wood - local people chop down trees to use as fuel for cooking or to burn to make cancer
Minerals
Gold, copper and iron ore are often found in tropicsl rainforets. Explosoves are sometimes used to clear earth or deep pits are dig to reach the deposits
Subsistence farming
Forest is cleared so farmers can grow food for themselves and their families.
