What’s the difference between open and closed skill?
Open skills are affected by the surrounding environment
Closed skills are not affected by the surrounding environment
What’s the difference between basic and complex skills?
Basic skills require little thought and do not need much information to be processed
Complex skills require thought and concentration, require a lot of information to be processed and they require a lot of decision making
What is the difference between low and high organisation?
Low organisation skills are easy to do and have separate phases
High organisation are harder to do and have phases that cannot be broken down
What is massed practise?
When there are little or no breaks in a session
When the same skill is repeated over and over
What is distributed practise?
When there are breaks in the session providing rest periods or changes of activities
What’s is fixed practise?
When the whole movement of a skill is repeatedly practised in the same way so it becomes well learned
What is variable practise?
When the same skill is repeated in different situations
What is the SMART acronym?
Specific- your goal must be clear
Measurable- to know if your goal has been met successfully
Achievable- something that is possible for you to do
Realistic- a goal that is possible given all the factors involved
Time Bound- must be assigned a time frame for eomoletion
What is visual guidance?
When the performer is shown the skill by a coach or fellow performer
What is verbal guidance?
When the performer is told what to do by a coach or fellow performer
What is manual guidance?
Where the coach physically supports the performer to help them get in the correct position
What is mechanical guidance?
Where the coach uses equipment to support the performer to help them with the technique
What is intrinsic feedback?
Feedback from within the performer - how it felt
What is extrinsic feedback?
Feedback from outside the performer- the coach giving tips
What is concurrent feedback?
Feedback given during a performance
