Discuss- show you understand question, introduce key terms, often involves rewording question
Define- define the key word in the question
Refine- state how you are interpreting the question, establish a clear opinion/ argument

Track through to ensure the essay flows eg first, next, moreover
Discuss a theory in as much detail as possible
Include actual linguist examples- eg when talking about adjectives, use an actual adjective
