Paper Flashcards
What is paper made from
Sugar cane, flax, hemp, straw, cotton, bamboo and wood.
Fillers
This smooths out paper and board
Sizing agents
This is a chemical added to or sprayed on the paper or board to reduces absorbency.
Internal Sizing
When a sizing agent is added to the pulp to affect how smoothly it runs through the machine.
Surface Sizing
When a sizing agent is sprayed on the paper or board to improve strength or reduce absorbing.
Coated paper
A general type of paper that has reduced ink absorption making images brighter, richer, sharper and with deeper blacks.
Uncoated paper
A general type of paper that has greater and faster absorption, duller colours, lots of textured finishes but weak strength.
Textures
A paper finish created with a felt roller covered in woven wire.
Felt, wove and velum
Textures in increasing smoothness.
Die Cutting
Can cut, score and crease paper and board in one movement.
Large quantities of identical shapes can be made quickly
CAD used to laser cut the plywood for the blades. Sponges encase the sponges to protect the paper/board.
