Mechanisms Flashcards
linear motion
Movement in a straight line.
Reciprocating motion
A back and forth movement.
Oscillating motion
Movement backwards and forwards movement like a pendulum of a clock.
Rotary Motion
circular movement
Levers
Simple machines with an arm that moves around a fulcrum
First order lever
the fulcrum is between the load and effort
Second order lever
Load and effort on the same side of the fulcrum. load nearer to the fulcrum so less effort is required e.g. Wheelbarrow.
Third order lever
fulcrum far right or far left load going up effort going down
Mechanical Advantage (MA)
Ratio of the output force exerted by a machine to the input force applied to the machine.
mechanical advantage formula
MA = output force (load) / input force (effort)
Velocity Ratio (VR)
distance moved by effort/distance moved by load
