Pancuronium (Pavulon) Flashcards
Pancuronium (Pavulon) class
Steroidal long acting non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent
Pancuronium (Pavulon) MOA
Binding of of NMBD as competitive antagonist to the alpha subunit of the nicotinic receptor inactivating the Na channel & preventing depolarization of the endplate region
Pancuronium (Pavulon) dosage
Int: 0.08-1.8 mg/kg
Flood 0.8mg/kg
Maintenance: 0.01-0.02 mg/kg
Pancuronium (Pavulon) characteristics
O: 1-4 min
P: n/a
D: 40-90 min
Pancuronium (Pavulon) E/M
H/l: 132 min
40-60% cleared by kidney, 11% bile, 15-20% met by deacetylation in liver
Accumulation of 3OH metabolites responsible for prolongation of block
DOA increased in elderly and R.F
Pancuronium (Pavulon) considerations
A/E: tachy, HTN, apnea, bronchospasm, salivation, flushing;
Stable for 6 mos at room temp;
Direct vagolytic effect, blocks muscarinic receptors on sympathetic postganglionic nerve terminals resulting in tachy.
