Pancreatitis Flashcards
Inflammatory disease producing temporary pancreatic changes
acute pancreatitis
Most common causes of acute pancreatitis
gallstone - 40%
alcohol abuse - 35%
SF of acute pancreatitis
enlarged hypo gland
Pancreatitis can take several directions
- resolution
- pseudocyst formation
- chronic pancreatitis
Complications of acute pancreatitis
- Pseudo formation
- abscess
- panc necrosis
- hemorrhage
- venous thrombosis
- pseudoaneurysm formation
inflammatory mass formed by edema and leakage of pancreatic enzymes
pancreatic phlegmon ( focal pancreatitis)
spreading inflammatory reaction to an infection which forms a suppurative lesion
phlegmon
Irreversible destruction due to repeated bouts of pancreatic inflammation
chronic pancreatitis
Causes of chronic pancreatitis
- Alcoholic chronic pancreatitis
- autoimmune pancreatitis
- hereditary pacnreatitis
- cystic fibrosis
- congenital abnormalities (pancreas divisum)
- abdominal trauma
- idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (20-30%)
Elevation of serum amylase and lipase are found only during
acute attacks of pancreatitis
SF of chronic pancreatitis
- small and echogenic gland
- calcifications
- pancreatic duct dilation
- pseudocyst formation
- bile duct dilation
- portal vein thrombosis
