What are the symptoms?
Severe central pain and vomiting
What would you see on examination?
Signs of infection
Grey turners and cullen
What tests confirm it?
Raised amylase
CT scan
ABG - ?acidosis
What are the investigations?
Full bloods and amylase/crp
CT to assess severity
ERCP
US
ABG
Xray to rule out perforation
What is the management of pancreatitis?
identify and treat cause
Fluids
NBM
Analgesia
What is the prognosis of pancreatitis?
Highly variable
Oedema from inflammation can cause hypovolaemia and necrotizing tissue. This causes enzyme leak and DIC
What are the complications of pancreatitis?
Early - Shock, ARDS, DIC and renal failure from hypovolaemia
Late - Necrosis, bleeding, fistulas
What is the scale used to assess pancreatitis?
What is severe?
Modified Glasgow scale - over 3 is serious
