- Shaky camera work which shows he is slowly falling due to the drugs which forces the audience to feel disorientated
- Tracking camera of Ofelia to signify her importance
- Low angle shot of the rebel group standing over the captain which shows them as the superior force with moral superiority
- The low angle shot of the Faun is done to show the intimidation
- The lighting in the palace is golden to signify the royalty and Ofelia’s peace
- There is darker lighting in the real world

Mise en Scene =

- Ofelia wears white to show her innocence which is stained by blood, it reflects how innocent the children are destroyed in the real world
- She wears bright red clothes which appears royalty and red shoes which links to Del Toro’s fairy-tale links, (Dorothy)
- Vidal is covered in blood to represent the lives he has ruined
- The baby is wearing white to reflect his innocence and how he has not been corrupted yet
- The palace is seen to have high thrones and regal architecture

- Ticking of the watch and the baby crying, close sonic perspective of things of importance.
- Fantastical chorus sounds which mark the transition between the real world and entering the underworld as they enter the labyrinth
- The music is tense as Vidal chases Ofelia which is parallel to the scene
- The faun growls as he speaks which is a patronizing voice
- The lullaby is being played on the strings slowly as Ofelia is being hunted down
- Narration at the end of the scene which shows a close up shot of her ribbon
