Palpation Of The Cervical, Thoracic And Lumbar Vertebrea - Day 1.4? Flashcards
Where are the transverse processes of C1 located?
Between the ramus of the mandible and mastoid process of the temporal bone and inferior to the mastoid process.
Where are the TPs of the C2 located?
Are located level with SI17 or the angle of the mandible
How do you locate SI17?
In the depression between the angle of the mandible and anterior border of the SCM.
What is the relationship between C1 TPs and C2 TPs?
C1 TP’s are slightly anterior and approximately 1 finger width apart.
How to use your fingers to measure the placement of the cervical vertebrae?
If your index finger is onC1, the middle finger will fall on C2, ring finger and C3 and little finger on C4.
What bone is level with C3?
The Hyoid bone
What structure does C4-C5 align with?
The thyroid cartilage.
What structure does C6 align with?
First cricoid ring.
How do you find C7 using other Cervical vertebrae?
When the neck is put into extension C6 will glide forward as C7 stays more stationary.
Where are the facet joints of cervical vertebrae located?
The facet joints are about 1 cun lateral to the lower border of the cervical spinous process, and are considered part of the HTJJ points.
What is a Huatuojiaji point?
HTJJ points are .5-1 cun away from the lower borders of the Spinous process of each vertebra.
How are Spinous processes grouped in the thoracic spine?
In groups of 3 based on the general direction of the spinous processes.
What is the largest of the spinous processes?
C7
What SPs are easy to mistake for each other?
C7 and T1
What % of the time can C7 feel more prominent than T1?
75% of the time
What is one way to differentiate C7 and T1?
C7 rotates more than T1 with cervical rotation.
What is the best way to find C7?
Find C6 through extension and then count down.
How do T1 - T3 SPs project?
Project posteriorly and are level with the lower borders of the TP.
How do the SPs of T4-T6 project?
The SPs are slightly inferior and the lower borders of SP is halfway between its TP and the TP of the inferior vertebra.
How do the spinous processes of T7 - T9 project?
They project more inferiority and the lower borders of the SP is level with the TP of the inferior vertebra.
What do the SPs of T10-T12 do?
They are transitional T10 resembles T9, T11 resembles the Vertebra of T4-T6, T12 resembles L1.
How do you needle each vertebras interspinous ligament at different areas of the spine?
TI-T3 relatively perpendicular, T4-T6 needs to be more oblique and superior insertion, T7-T9 Even more oblique and superior that T4-T6, from T10 to T12 is relative to that vertebra.
Which vertebra is level with the superior angle of the scapula?
T2
Which vertebra is level with the root of the spine of the scapula?
T3
