Palpating Practical 2 Flashcards
Anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
partner standing. Place hands on side of abdomens below umbilicus work down iliac spine until you feel the edge
Anterior inferior iliac spine (AIIS)
have partner lay supine. flex the hip (lift leg straight up_
find ASIS, slide inferiorly and medially about an inch. It’s deep to some small tendons
Iliac crest
find ASIS and follow it up and back until PSIS
Iliac fossa (will only be able to palpate the edges of this)
Partner lying supine (upright). Flex the hip by bolstering the knee. curl fingertips over the lip of iliac crest of anterior side
Posterior superior iliac spine
dimples in back
Sacrum
kind of in-between back dimples. Where your belt would be and down from there
Greater trochanter of femur
Have Gannon side lying. It’s right below hip and between thigh move knee medially laying down and it pops out
Pubic crest and tubercles (do not need to palpate)
just above private areas
Ischial tuberosity
your sits bones
Inguinal ligament
located on a line between ASIS and pubic tubercles
find pulse of femoral artery and move superiorly
Femoral triangle
state that it is bound superiorly by inguinal ligament, laterally by sartorius, and medially by adductor longus
inside NAVEL (inguinal ligament)
Rectus femoris
partner supine with bolster under knee and it’s straight up from your patella. Have Gannon lift leg off table (flex hip)
Vastus medialis
Have Gannon lie supine with a bolster under knee. Tell him to fully extend his knee. tear drop shape medial and superior to patella.
Vastus lateralis
Have gannon side lying. Place hand on lateral side of thigh while Gannon extends and relaxes his knee.
Biceps femoris/ semitendinous / semimembranous
Have Gannon lay prone. Have Gannon flex his knee and you’ll feel the whole hamstring compartment. It’s more lateral than semi membranous and semitendinous
know the vicinity of adductor longs, gracilis and pectinius
pectinous is a small muscle up at the top most lateral and it goes about to the middle of femur (its upper inner leg )
adductor longis is the next most medial above knee on medial side move up on inner leg
gracilis is the most medial… it connects to pubic symphisis
Tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial tract
Have Gannon side lie. Go posterior and distal to ASIS and have Gannon medially rotate lip and relax. Thats tensor fascia latae right under the hip.
For iliotibial tract have him lift the top leg and feel above the lateral knee the superficial and stringy fibers
Sartorius
Have landon lie on his back. Bend his knees up, and then cross one over the other. Have him resist me pulling his bent leg towards his hip. starts at ASIS and inserts into tibia
Iliopsoas
Side lying between ASIS and navel. It’s deep and goes more at a diagnal opposite of your V
Tibial tuberosity
directly underneath under patella. Its where patella ligament inserts -its that boney prominance. If you move left or right there’s caves
Shaft of the tibia
continue down from the tibial tuberosity and its the big bone
Head of the fibula
lateral epicondyle of knee, slide down three inches.
“Hills on Both Sides” explain condyles of knee from epicondyles of knee
condyles are the curved region, epicondyle are far medial or lateral side
Medial femoral condyle
Its on the knee itself on the medial side. Move medially from medial epicondyle- sometimes flexion can help you feel this rounded area
