Perceptual pain
Perceptual- awareness of location, quality, intensity, and duration
Affective pain
Affective- psychological factors, including client’s personality and emotional state
Cognitive pain
Cognitive- what client knows and believes about the pain from cultural and past pain experiences
Behavioral pain
Behavioral- how the client expresses pain to others through communication and behavior

last as long as stimuli
chronic pain
lasts longer than 3 months
continues after stimulus removed or tissue heals
referred pain
spontaneous pain outside the area of injury or source of pain
central neuropathic pain
pain initiated or caused by a primary lesion or dysfunction of the central nervous system

0-10 how intense is your pain today
visual analog scale
line with no pain on one end and severe pain on the other and ask them where they are at
