PAIN Flashcards
Neuropathic pain
Neuropathic- caused by leisons or disease of the somatosensory nervous system. Result from injury to peripheral and central nervous system that causes permanent changes in circuit sensitivity and CNS connections.
Nociceptive pain
Pain that arises from actual or threatened damage to non-neural stimulus and is due to the activation of nociceptors. This can be activated through specific receptors and/or ion channels on peripheral nociceptors.
Inflammatory pain
Pain driven by inflammatory mediators that directly activating peripheral nociceptors and produce pain- others produce changes in sensitivity to peripheral nociceptors.
What are some examples of noxious stimuli
Heat, chemicals, mechanical stimuli and cold stimuli. Causing permanent changes in circuit circuitary Altering their sensitivity to pain.
